Sonoma Community Center, January 9 to February 19, 2026

“We honor the enduring value of handmade craft and the artisans who keep these traditions alive. In a world increasingly shaped by mass production and digital speed, this exhibition invites us to slow down and consider the meaning, beauty, and depth that come from work made by hand.”

The Story

Craft in the Valley (exploring the space between art and craft) grew from a shared desire to honor the depth, relevance, and vitality of handmade craft in our community. Curators Simon Blattner and Barbara Wells presented at the Sonoma Community Center, Gallery 212, an exhibition that brought together a diverse group of artisans working across ceramics, fiber, wood, glass, metal, and mixed media. The show explored craft as functional art, cultural storytelling, and a practice rooted in process, experimentation, and mastery. Featuring work by local makers, the exhibition highlighted the human hand as a source of both innovation and tradition, while inviting conversations about the evolving relationship between art and craft. Through the exhibition and related programs, artists, curators, and community members came together to celebrate making as a living, meaningful force in contemporary creative life.
