Jennie Smith
Jennie Smith is an artist born in San Francisco who is celebrated for her meticulously rendered graphite drawings, watercolors, and prints that intertwine natural phenomena, animal life, and ecological narrative with mythic and imagined elements. Her delicate yet richly detailed work often explores animal habitats, environmental concerns, and the poetic forces of nature, transforming visible and invisible ecosystems—like the Pacific Ocean’s floating debris gyre—into captivating, layered visual worlds that blend fairy-tale lyricism with serious ecological reflection.
Smith’s work was included in the Whitney Biennial in New York, and she has shown in solo exhibitions at venues such as the Rena Bransten Gallery in San Francisco; she received her BFA from the Minneapolis College of Art & Design and lives and works in San Francisco.
